Paris - Parra

Un moment à Paris ? allez donc voir la galerie « Lazy Dog », extension de la librairie graphique du même nom. J’ai pu y voir la seule expo de Parra de 2008 « Boo the how show ».
Et a vrai dire je reste sur mes premières impression : la sérigraphie c’est top !
Parra est hollandais et a actuellement 32 ans. Dans son boulot, tout est courbe et la place est faite aux couleurs. On a l’impression d’être face à des œuvres pop mais sans en être réellement. Étrange… mais toujours décalé et humoriqtique, ces personnages sont des femmes-oiseaux ou des caricatures de TV show.
On notera en plus de l’expo les nombreux visuels pour des vêtements Rockwell, des boards de skate (Enjoi Skateboarding) et de nombreux flyers, pochettes de CD ou couvertures magazines, qui me font dire que ce genre d’artiste est urbain, dans le sens ou il ne se limite pas à un seul support et peut être vu de tous.
Ce que j’apprécie dans la sérigraphie c’est la propreté du rendu et le caractère reproductible de la technique. Peut-être que ce goût évoluera, mais pour l’instant je trouve ça intéressant !

I could see there the only Parra exhibition for 2008 named « Boo the Hoo show ». And what I can say now is that my first impressions were right: printmaking is awesome!
Parra is a 32 years old Dutch artist. His work is full of curves and colors. We have the impression of being in front of pop work, but it’s not really. Strange… But always smooth and humoristic, his characters are birdwomen or TV show caricatures.
In addition to this exhibition, we could notice numerous visuals for Rockwell clothes, for Enjoy Skateboarding and many flyers, CD’s jackets or magazine covers. All thoses different works let me say that this kind of artist is urban, in the way that his work is not restricted to a single vehicle and can be seen by everyone.
What i particulary appreciate in printmaking is the cleanliness of the execution and the possibilities of reproduction on various supports given by the process. My taste will probably change, but now i’m pretty impressed!
